What's the Difference Between Tumbling & Gymnastics?

Tumbling

Tumbling incorporates fundamental floor skills, such as cartwheels, round-offs, back and front handsprings, layouts, etc. Our tumbling classes work on the competition spring floor and tumbl trak (trampoline).

Preschool Gymnastics

It is never too early to start your child in gymnastics!  By introducing them at a young age, your little gymnast will roll, climb, jump and soar through the fundamentals of gymnastics.  Through their experience, your preschooler will also gain important skills such as listening, follow directions, taking turns, and working with others.

Glowworms

Ages 18 Months to 2.5 Years

This fun, exciting 30 minute introduction to gymnastics class is for boys and girls!   Your toddler will begin to learn the fundamentals of gymnastics. Your toddler will begin to develop skills such as forward, backward, and sideways motions, forward rolls, balancing, coordination, fine and gross motor skills and much more all within an exciting, safe atmosphere.  

Fireflies

Ages 3-4 Years

This action-packed 45 minute class for boys and girls furthers pre-gymnastics development by emphasizing fine and gross motor skills, as well as hand-eye coordination. Your child will have fun in a safe atmosphere learning tumbling and gymnastics skills! Athletes will engage in fun activities on our competition spring floor, creative obstacle courses, learn how to use our tumbl trak, uneven bars, balance beam, and so much more! No previous experience is necessary!

Lightning Bugs

Ages 5-6 Years

This exhilarating 45 minute class for boys and girls teaches the basic fundamentals of gymnastics, helping your child to further improve their athletic abilities and overall coordination. The Lightning Bug program also enhances their strength, flexibility, and preschool-kindergarten social skills (sharing, teamwork, listening, following directions, and more). Athletes will work on floor training, balance beam, uneven bars, tumbl trak, and beginning of vault skills. No previous experience necessary!

Recreational Gymnastics

RTGC’s recreational gymnastics program is designed for children ages 6 and up. These classes are all about fun, fitness, and friends!  All classes receive access to our competition spring floor, uneven bars, balance beam, tumbl trak, and vault. Our trained coaching staff follows a detailed curriculum designed with each athlete’s success in mind.

Level 1 Gymnastics

Ages 7 & Up

This one hour gymnastics class is perfect for your active gymnast just getting started!   Your athlete will receive exposure to our tumbl trak, uneven bars, balance beam, vault, and our competition spring floor.  Our trained coaching staff will develop your athlete in these skills: cartwheels, handstands, forward and backward rolls, core strength training, flexibility, and more.   No previous experience necessary!

Level 2 Gymnastics

Ages 7 & Up

Athletes should have some previous gymnastics experience and have completed Level I gymnastics curriculum. An evaluation may be required.

This one hour gymnastics class is for the beginner/intermediate athlete who wants to continue developing and strengthening basic skills and get to the next level.  The gymnasts will continue to learn and master:

Vault: straight jump, squat on, handstand flat back

Bars: front support, casts, static hold, pullover, spotted back hip circle

Beam: mount, arabesque hold, forward roll, releve walks, straight jump, pivot turn, lever, side handstand

Floor: cartwheel progressions, straddle forward roll, backward roll, levers, handstand, bridge kickover, back bend, split jumps

Level 3 Gymnastics & Pre-Team

Ages 7 & Up

Level 3 Requirements:  Athletes must have completed Level 1 and Level 2 curriculum.  Evaluation may be required.

 

Level 3 & Pre-Team programs are programs designed to meet the needs and skills of gymnasts seeking higher levels of learning and development within a disciplined and team oriented environment. Gymnasts will grow their skills in longer practice sessions and form strong bonds with their teammates and coaches.  Gymnast in these classes should demonstrate strong work ethic, “I can” attitudes, goal setting, respect and determination.

For athletes who are interested in only the tumbling portion of gymnastics without uneven bars, beam, and vault, may choose our tumbling classes. RTGC’s tumbling classes practice train their skills on our competition spring floor and tumbl trak. Our trained coaching staff ensures your athletes safety and uses the latest coaching techniques.

Tumbling Level 1

Ages 7 & Up

This is a one hour beginner tumbling class is perfect for entry-level athletes looking to learn tumbling skills such as forward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, back bends, bridges, splits, core strength training, and more.   No previous experience required.

Tumbling Level 2

Ages 7 & Up

Requirements:  Athletes should have some previous tumbling experience and have completed Level I tumbling curriculum.  Evaluation may be required.

This one hour tumbling class is for the beginner/intermediate athlete looking to continue developing their tumbling skills. The athlete will continue to learn and master:  forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, round offs, back bends, bridges, bridge kickovers, front walkovers, back walkovers, etc.

Tumbling Level 3

Ages 7 & Up

Requirements:  Athletes should have some previous tumbling experience and have completed Level I and Level 2 tumbling curriculum.  Evaluation may be required.

This one hour tumbling class is for the intermediate/advanced athlete looking to continue developing their tumbling skills. The athlete will continue to learn and master skills:  back handsprings, front walkovers, back walkover, power hurdle rounds offs, begin training of tucks.

Ages 5 & Up (Boys)

This all boys one hour tumbling & strength training class teaches the basics of tumbling, challenging the athletes to develop at their own pace while enhancing strength, flexibility, and coordination. Boys will work on mastering forward rolls, backward rolls, headstands, cartwheels, round offs, bridges, bridge kickovers, handstands, etc.

Competitive Gymnastics

The XCEL Program is designed to offer a broad-based, affordable, family-friendly competitive gymnastics experience. While we never stop having fun, this level is for athletes who are serious about competing and are willing to commit to the program. This program is committed to developing gymnasts from the inside out.

XCEL Requirements

Must be recommended by gym.   New athletes, please contact gym to arrange an evaluation.

RTGC’s XCEL Program offers an affordable, family friendly, Christian competitive gymnastics experience.  Xcel is for athletes who are serious about competing and are willing to commit to training 10 hrs weekly (2.5 hours daily Monday - Thursday).  

Levels Offered

XCEL Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum

Gymnasts learn skills and routines designed by the USAG and will attend three local meets throughout the year. Athletes may compete at State if they qualify. Required training is 10 hours per week. There are additional costs with this program including USAG membership fees, gymnast tracking fees, meet fees, team leotard, and warm-up attire.  Xcel gymnasts participate and are showcased at our annual Sparkling Holiday Showcase in December.
